LCn Loudness Correct is your shortcut to loudness-normalized audio files targeted at any delivery platform you could ever think of.

You can use LCn either as a native Pro Tools plug-in or as a stand-alone version with watch folder capability for automatic batch-normalization of multiple audio files.

Precise Loudness Normalization

 

Today, hitting the right loudness target is essential whether you deliver for HDTV, Mobile TV, podcast, radio, iTunes, Spotify, etc.

LCn makes this as easy as clicking a button or dragging a file to a folder.

The plug-in version allows you to apply faster-than-real-time, two-pass, off-line processing in Pro Tools. In case you don't use Pro Tools, the complementary stand-alone version that runs on PC and Mac makes sure you get the job done just perfectly.

Stand-Alone App w/ Watch Folder Capability

 

A key functionality in the LCn stand-alone version is the dedicated watch folder capability that allows you to simply drag and drop your audio files into a user-defined folder for fast and easy loudness normalization and true peak limiting. 

You can even paste multiple audio files into the watch folder, making the LCn a highly efficient loudness batch processor.

The watch folder feature not only works on your local computer but also across networks, allowing you to loudness normalize audio files from any computer on the network.

Mastering-Grade True Peak Limiter

 

True peak limiting is an essential part of normalizing to loudness, and our mastering-grade Brickwall 2 True Peak Limiter is an integrated part of LCn - complete with various true peak limiter profiles and linking functionality.

You can now be absolutely certain that your material will pass the ingest stage on both loudness and true peak targets, virtually eliminating the risk of having yourr content rejected.

If you deliver to multiple platforms such as HD TV and Mobile TV, it is essential to be able to hit two very different loudness targets. In that process a true peak limiter is absolutely key and with Brickwall 2 handling the peaks, audio quality is always kept at its finest.

LCn Settings

Source LED

This light relates to the source file. Green means that the source file is already loudness-normalized to the same target that you have specified. Yellow means that it has not been loudness-normalized to your target, and red will only appear if the file selected is not in a supported format (AIFF, WAV or BWAV).

Source Radar

The left radar meter shows the loudness landscape of the source file along with the parameter values for Program Loudness, LRA, Short Term Max and True Peak Max.

Preset

Here you can select a number of presets depending of what platform and/or region you want to deliver to. For example, EBU R128, ATSC A/85, iTunes, etc.

Max Boost

You can specify a max amount of gain boost with this slider. Please note that this is one of the parameters that may prevent you from being able to hit your target. For example, if you audio file is very soft and you only allow LCn to boost by, say, 6 dBTP, it might not be possible to reach the target specified.

Max Reduction

You can specify a max amount of gain reduction with this slider. Please note that this is one of the parameters that may prevent you from being able to hit your target. For example, if you audio file is very loud and you only allow LCn to reduce by, say, 6 dBTP, it might not be possible to reach the target specified.

Process LED

This light relates to the processed file. Green means that the new, processed file is on the target you have specified. If some parameters such as Max Boost, S Max or Max Reduction have been set in a way so the target can not be hit, the light will turn yellow.

Process Radar

The right radar meter shows the loudness landscape of the processed file as well as the parameter values for Program Loudness, LRA, Short Term Max and True Peak Max.

Target

Use this sider to adjust the Program Loudness target. If you select a preset, this will be pre-set, but in case you want to hit a different target, e.g. -16.5, 21 or something else, you can set a custom target here.

S Max

According to new EBU R128 revisions, there is now a recommendation for short form content such as commercials and promos. Broadcasters can now set a limit for the short-term loudness they want to accept – e.g. -18 LUFS. When you work with content that is not short form content, set this slider to ‘Disregard’.

Surr. Ch. Order

(Applies to LC6n only) Select the order of the channels in a 5.1 surround setup.

Limiter Profile

Select a profile for the True Peak Limiter: PCM Linear or AC3 Protect.

Limiter Threshold

Use this slider to set the threshold for the built-in True Peak Limiter.

Folder

Watch the Folder...

A key functionality in the LCn stand-alone version is the dedicated watch folder capability that allows you to simply drag and drop your audio files into a user-defined target folder for fast and easy loudness normalization and true peak limiting.

The new, normalized file will automatically be created in another user-defined destination folder, and you can set LCn to automatically delete the original file or keep it in the watch folder.

Another practical feature is the "traffic light" indicator that turns Green if the output file is fully compliant, Yellow if the Target is reduced because of Short-term priority, and Red in case the file cannot be corrected within the limits chosen.

In fact, there are two "traffic lights": the left one relates to the source file, and the right one relates to the processed file. 

 

 

 

Source

Green: The file has alrady been normalized to the loudness target you have specified. 

Yellow: The file has not been normalized to the loudness target you have specified. 

Red: The file format is not supported. LCn supports AIFF, WAV and BWAV/BWF.

 

Process

Green: The new, processed file is on the target you have specified

Yellow: Some parameters such as Max Boost, S Max or Max Reduction have been set in a way so the target can not be hit.

Batch Processing & Networking

Batch Processing

You can paste multiple audio files into the watch folder, making the LCn a highly efficient loudness batch processor.

To make it even better, the processed file in the destination folder will have the Program Loudness and LRA values added to the file name. 

In case you may have set LCn in a way so the target can not be hit, "_warning" will be added to file name and these files would be placed on top in your destination folder, making it easy for you to get an overview and quickly see which files may need another round of normalization with new settings.

Finally, the watch folder feature also works across a networked system, so in case you want to install it on a central server you can reach LCn from any computer on that network.

Mastering-Grade True Peak Limiter

True peak limiting is an essential part of normalizing to loudness, but the quality of true peak limiters varies significantly.

We actually developed this very accurate way of measuring and processing peaks. Therefore, we have a long history of providing the absolute finest, mastering-grade true peak limiting algorithms, and our legendary Brickwall 2 True Peak Limiter is an integrated part of LCn - complete with true peak limiter profiles (Linear and AC3 Protect) and linking functionality.

You can now be absolutely certain that your material will pass the broadcast ingest stage on both loudness and true peak targets and thereby eliminate virtually any risk of having your content rejected.

HD-Mob-2

If you are a broadcaster delivering to multiple platforms such as HD TV and Mobile TV, it is essential to be able to hit two very different loudness targets, typically -23/-24 LUFS and -16 LUFS. In that process a true peak limiter is absolutely key and with Brickwall 2 handling the peaks, audio quality is kept at its finest regardless of the delivery platform.

Short-Term Max Limit

LCn takes the very latest supplement to the EBU R128 standard into consideration by adding a 'Short-Term Max Limit' feature that you can choose to activate.

In other words, it is now possible to hit the loudness target and at the same time comply with the new S-Max goals. This is absolutely essential for producers of short-duration content such as commercials and trailers.

Since loudness measuring often need a certain duration to provide a meaningful result, very short-duration content such as promos and commercials (typically 30-60 seconds) now need to meet one more parameter goal to be compliant with the new S-Max option of the 2014 EBU R128 supplement.

It does not have to hit a specific target as is the case with Program Loudness (I), but it can not exceed -18 LUFS when measuring the Short-term Loudness (S). This extra criteria is an addition and the overall Program Loudness target should still be hit.

LCn can be set to process with this in mind or not depending on what kind of audio content you are normalizing to loudness.

Dual Radar Confidence Check

During processing LCn shows two small Loudness Radar Meters that you'll know if you already use our loudness meters. However, even if you don't, you'll quickly and easily understand how the Dual Radar Confidence Check feature works.

Quite simply, the Radar Meter on the left shows the loudness landscape over time (short-term loudness) of the original content, and as soon as the processing has been completed, the loudness landscape is shown on the right radar reflecting the new, loudness-normalized audio file. In other words, Pre and Post processing is displayed simultaneously.

For instance, this is a great advantage if you work with long-duration programs as it is very easy and fast to check, literally at a glance, that everything is in order.
