The original Shin-Ei Uni-Vibe* is a highly unique, complex and gorgeous-sounding analog unit, so when we set out to recreate it digitally we knew it wasn't going to be easy. Through countless hours of meticulous side-by-side testing with the real thing and by pushing our insanely powerful DSP to its very limits, we've been able to recreate this legendary effect to a tee. You'll get all the lush, syrupy vibe tones heard on countless tracks by Pink Floyd, Robin Trower and Jimi Hendrix and when you dive into that opening Machine Gun riff, we just know you'll be convinced that we nailed it.

The World of Rock Just Leveled Up!

We've poured our heart and soul into Viscous Vibe and there's no hiding that we're extremely proud of what we've achieved. Its dead-on recreations of the legendary gooey phasey goodness and thick dramatic swirls of the original Shin-Ei Uni-Vibe* unit already makes it epic, but then transferring it all to a high-quality compact design that won't break the bank - that just makes it epic beyond belief.

Vintage Vibes and Modern Strides

With Viscous Vibe you get the best of both worlds in a pedal that perfectly combines old analog warmth with modern-day functionality. With True Bypass for uncompromised tonal quality and stereo I/O for an ultra-wide sonic perspective, you get the perfect pedal for everybody who wants to implement classic-rock tones into their contemporary setup.

Our proprietary TonePrint technology is just another upside to this already amazing pedal. So if you feel like making that stock vibe tone sound a little more like…well, you…then hook it up to our free TonePrint Editor and enter tone-tweaking heaven! On top of that you can also beam custom-made vibacious tones straight through your pickups and into the pedal via our free TonePrint App. The future is a pretty awesome place to be!

Most digital phasers and vibe effects I’ve tried were somewhat flat sounding and underwhelming, but the Helix and Viscous Vibe instantly blew me away with their expressive character and dynamic responsiveness. The Viscous Vibe’s chorus effect is the same thick, swirling, psychedelic Uni-Vibe effect guitarists have loved since Jimi played “Machine Gun,” and its vibrato effect is spot on as well. Players who want to go beyond the limitations of the original can do so via the TonePrint Editor software.

TonePrints make it far more flexible than the original, especially if you want to move beyond well trodden and hard-to-top Hendrix moves. Built tough and sensibly priced, the Viscous Vibe is an appealing and affordable chorus/vibrato option.

So, how does this stack up? Extremely well, we'd say, as it's big on the twin virtues of practicality and versatility. It's 'board- and wallet-friendly, and can nail the vintage tones, but it's the open-ended nature of the TonePrint facility that gives it an edge over its more conventional rivals. The familiar vintage-like tones are here, but you will always have a creative alternative.

TC Electronic has done an outstanding job with the Viscous Vibe, earning it a permanent spot on my pedalboard, as well as an Editors' Pick Award.

TC Electronic has once again developed a pedal that radiates quality through and through. Both the Chorus and the Vibrato effect manages to sound wonderfully analog and sport a wide range of great useable sounds, which makes the Viscous Vibe the natural choice for everybody who’s looking for a Uni-Vibe pedal.

TC is striving to combine old analogue warmth with modern day functionality here and I think they really have come up with the goods. Straightforward controls of Speed, Intensity and Volume mean dialling in a good sound or making adjustments on the fly are a breeze, the LED also flashes at the speed you have set, which is a cool little feature. As with the Helix there is a mini-toggle switch for chorus which delivers a thick and phasey tone, or vibrato for an amazing swirly effect, plus of course the TonePrint option. Just like the Helix, this is a highly musical, dynamic and interesting pedal, allowing the individual to achieve the sound they hear in their head.

Whether you’re looking to add a little Jimi to your setup or you just want something new to inspire you, the Viscous is worthy of your consideration. Some players may balk at its digital design, but the sounds are absolutely on point, and when you factor in TonePrints and stereo capability, this pedal is an incredible value. TC Electronic has done it again—this pedal truly gives off good vibrations.
