TonePrint App FAQ - iPhone

  • Q: the LED on my TonePrint pedal doesn't blink when beaming TonePrints from my iPhone / the Toneprint beaming doesn't work.

    What can i do?

  • A: - you might need to update the software of your TonePrint pedal before the beaming procedure can work. Go to tcelectronic.com/software to download the latest firmware.

If it still doesn't work after updating, please check the following:

    - please check that the TonePrint setting is selected and that the pedal is NOT bypassed
    - check that your Instrument volume and iOS playback level is turned up (iPhone must not be in silent mode)
    - check that you hold your iPhone close to your instrument pickup with its speaker on the bottom pointing towards the selected pickup!) and that the right pick up is selected
    - if your TonePrint pedal or amp is in a chain with other FX pedals, check that all previous pedals are bypassed, so the TonePrint audio file doesn't get altered prior to reaching your pedal or amp.

  • Q: i have a 2nd generation iPod touch and cannot get the beaming feature to work.

    What can I do?

  • A: The 2nd generation iPod touch uses a piezo based loudspeaker that is not compatible with our TonePrint file. Please connect the standard apple headset instead and hold the earbuds close to the pickup for the TonePrint beaming process to work.

  • Q: What are the requirements for using the TonePrint beaming technology with my iOS device?

  • A: You need at least one TonePrint pedal or an amp with the latest software version and an iOS device with iOS 4.X or later. If you are using a 2nd generation iPod touch you will need a set of headphones (see question above)

  • Q: I have beamed several TonePrints but cannot hear any difference. What could be the problem?

  • A: Depending on the TonePrint and the setting the artists chose they might sound similar on first hearing. Audible differences may be only obvious at certain settings, depending on pot mappings used by the artists. Please also bear in mind that the current pot positions affects the sound of the TonePrint and that eg. the delaytime of Flashback Delay will be maintained after uploading a new TonePrint

  • Q: the TonePrint App crashes my iOS device. What can I do?

  • A: please get in touch with our tech support and provide an error description that includes the following info:

    - your iOS device (eg iPhone 3Gs)
    - your iOS software version (Settings > General > About > Version)
    - a description of the problem (when does it crash, is it reproducable etc.)

  • Q: Do you have any videos on how to beam TonePrints to my pedal?

  • A: Yes, a video of the upload procedure is available here:

  • Q: Is there an Android version of the TonePrint App available?

  • A: The TonePrint App is available for Android as well.

  • Q: The TonePrint beaming works but a lot of times the pedal LED flashes red at the end of the transmission.

    What can I do?

  • A: If the beamed TonePrint misses some data the pedal won't be updated and your previous TonePrint wil stay active. Simply try the beaming again and make sure your hand doesn't cover the speaker area of your iOS device. Check also the levels on your iPhone and instrument.

A sucessful beaming is indicated by your pedal's LED showing a green blinking sequence at the end of the transmission before turning red again. If it works intermittent, try changing the distance and angle of your iPhone towards the pickup and make sure you stay within 3 to 10 cm range.

  • Q: What are the system requirements to use the TonePrint App on my iOS device?

  • A: The TonePrint App is supported by all iOS devices running iOS 4 and above.
