Chorus TonePrint by Orianthi

Orianthi went for a chorus sound that will be a go-to sound for her. She asked for a relatively high speed and quite a lot of depth to the sound; and for this TonePrint she uses the TriChorus setting. Recommended settings: set all knobs to 12 o'clock for the standard TonePrint and then adjust to taste.

About

TC: Who inspired you over the years when you were creating your own personal guitar tone? Orianthi: I love listening to Carlos Santana, Steve Vai, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. It's important to find a tone that fits your personality, to find the right amount of gain, reverb and delay etc.

TC: What are the main ingredients in your tone in terms of effects (e.g. chorus, flanger, delay, etc.)? Orianthi: I use a harmonizer, flanger, phaser, chorus, delay and reverb.

TC: Have you ever been so inspired by a tone you created that you ended up writing a tune based on that specific tone? Orianthi: Yeah, a song I wrote a while ago called Lights of Manos. I was experimenting with effects and started to write that tune with the spacey chord sound that i created.

TC: Do you work on developing your tone continuously, or do you feel that you have found a fundamental tone that will last throughout your career? Orianthi: I think it is very important to find your own voice and tone on the guitar. I would say mine is in the middle of being rock and blues. I like my gain to sustain notes but then i also like a lot of clarity so it's not just a wall of sound. My guitar tech Dan "Borga" ONeil is always tweaking my tone and effects to match the album but we have come really close. But live we come up with some weird ones and have fun with them.

TC: What inspired you when you created your TonePrint(s)? Orianthi: How simple it was to create.

TC: You had access to a lot of tweakable parameters. Did any new ideas for future tones pop up in the process? Orianthi: Yeah, when you are messing around with effects/tones you're always trying to create something new and cool. There might be some surprises in the future.

TC: Normally, do you prefer having access to many parameters, or do you like simple pedals with just a few knobs better? Orianthi: At rehearsals or soundcheck we will experiment with tones by accessing parameters and locking them in for the shows. I tend to let my guitar tech Danny handle adjustments and let him know what I am looking for and he designs the rest.

TC: How come you signed up for creating your own personal TonePrint(s)? Orianthi: TC has been a big supporter of me and my gear has become a staple in my sounds I wanted to see see how much more we could expand.

TC: In your opinion, what is the single coolest thing about TonePrints? Orianthi: Again it has to be the simplicity.

TC: Did a specific song or album inspire this specific TonePrint? Orianthi: I am a big fan of the 80's and how the guitar tones really stood out. I was looking for a dramatic edgy tone with a lot of clarity.

TC: How does this TonePrint fit into your curent sound and gear set-up? Orianthi: I use many different effects and working with the chorus and the flanger, well, those are two sounds I use live in many songs and solos.

TC: How did you go about creating this specific TonePrint? Orianthi: You will have to ask Danny my guitar tech he does the building stuff, I just played and told him when I liked something.

TC: How long did it take before you were satisfied with the result? Orianthi: It was literally a few minutes and it was dialed right in.

TC: What type of sound did you set out to achieve with your TonePrint, and did you succeed? Orianthi: Something that would enhance my solos and stand out when playing live and I really think we succeeded.
