Rudy Sarzo is nothing less than a legend on the bass guitar. His more than 35 years in music includes membership of awesome bands like Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, White Snake, DIO, Blue Öyster Cult and many others. He has played on a number of records that have sold in excess of 30 million copies.

Not only is the tireless Sarzo a master on the bass, he is also the author of the bestselling book, "Off the Rails" – a biographical account of his time in Ozzy Osbourne's band in the early 1980s.

Moreover, he is a competent computer digital animator and operates as the 3D technical director and co-executive producer at Ocean Visual FX in Southern California when he is not on the road.

And, if it wasn’t enough already, Sarzo also devotes time to helping find homes for homeless shelter animals, and acting as a counselor at Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp.

The Cuban born Sarzo came to the United States with his parents and his brother in 1961 – back then he was 11 years old. The family first came to Miami, but was relocated to New Jersey.

This was a real cultural shock, not only because of the language barrier, but because of the weather conditions too. The much colder climate was tough to adjust to for the family from the sub-tropical Caribbean island.

Though rocking the bass for several decades, Rudy Sarzo didn’t actually start out playing bass. Instead he had an old craftsman acoustic guitar.

Sarzo wanted to join the local band in his neighborhood, but they already had enough guitarists. So, he was told, that if he wanted to be a part of the band, he had to play bass. Since then, the bass guitar has been his life companion.

Rudy Sarzo joined Quiet Riot in the summer of 1978 and stayed in the band until it broke up in late 1979 when Randy Rhoads left to join Ozzy Osborne.

From March that year to September ’82, he really rose to fame as the bassist in Ozzy Osbourne’s band, which he toured the world with in support of the "Blizzard of Ozz" and “Diary Of a Madman” records.

His blazing playing can be heard on Osbourne's “Speak of the Devil” and "Tribute" live albums.

From ‘82 to ‘85 Sarzo rejoined Quiet Riot, with whom he recorded the multi-platinum albums “Metal Health”, and “Condition Critical”. “Metal Health” is the first Heavy Metal debut to reach #1 on the Billboard charts.

A quality-conscious man, Rudy Sarzo continued his career with Whitesnake from ‘87 to ‘94. With the band he recorded the multi-platinum album “Slip of the Tongue”.

From ‘97 to ‘03 he was a member of the reunited Quiet Riot, and, in ‘04, Sarzo became a member of the multi-platinum Heavy Metal group DIO.

He remained the band's bassist until 2010. Meanwhile, and until 2012, he also toured the world with Blue Öyster Cult.

Besides all of these great bands, the legendary and assiduous Rudy Sarzo has played with Angel, Yngwie Malmsteen’s Rising Force, Geoff Tate's Queensryche, The Guess Who, D-Metal, Animetal USA, Project Rock, GUNZO, Devil City Angels, Heart of the Storm as well as recorded as a solo artist.
