Think of legendary bass players and Rocco Prestia features on every list. For over 40 years now Rocco's bass has been underpinning the groove for Californian funk legends Tower Of Power. In that time Rocco has defined his own style and become synonymous with the much-imitated ‘Finger Style Funk' that he pioneered back in the '60s and '70s.
"I'm proud I've had a vehicle like Tower of Power to develop a personal style. A lot of cats - great players - never get that chance. They bounce around bands and sessions; they don't have the opportunity to cultivate a sound. So it's been an honor and a privilege to be able to grow both as an artist and as a player in this band. Thank God I happened to be in the right place at just the right time!" In his time as both influential and legendary bass player, Rocco has tried just about all the gear there is to get the best sound possible and has always been striving for exactly that. Hearing rumours about a very different bass amp concept, ‘Bass Amp 2.0', Rocco arranged to hear more about the RH450.
Rocco tried the RH450 rig prior to a Tower of Power sound check, and by the time he was through he'd already made his mind up. His usual bass rig was instantly removed from the stage and the RH450 put in its place. Over the next few weeks the power, tone and clarity of RH450 grew on Rocco so much that he decided to take things a step further - and that's when the idea of the Staccato'51 was born.
"I've always played the best amps in the world. Then TC Electronic took things to a completely new level with Bass amp 2.0. It's everything I want and need in an amp - the tone, clarity, durability, power… and the flexibility. So when TC asked me to combine their technology with my experience, I couldn't wait to get started. I'm proud to introduce the result - Staccato'51”
