Bass Guitar Magazine When it comes to combo amps, TC Electronic have undoubtedly raised the bar with the BG500. Either one of the two speaker configurations would be a really good buy for anyone in need of a reliable and user-friendly gigging amp, with plenty of power, that won’t cost the earth. The intuitive frontpanel layout gives you complete control over the built-in features, meaning you can dial in a range of bass sounds, mute the signal, tune up quickly, or even adjust the tweeter.

No Treble "The BG500 is punch enough to play rock, and boomy enough to play country. Delivering refined tone suitable for jazz and dirty, nasty punk/metal tones, this amp delivers tones suitable for almost every tonal palette. Playing around with the EQ, I was able to dial-in some wonderful jazz tones. With a tight low-end and crisp highs, this amp has a great sound if you’re looking to play Jaco or in a Big Band. For fun, I cranked the gain WAY up, and over-drove the tube emulator. I got some GREAT over-drive sound that took me back to my bedroom when I was 15, learning Cliff Burton’s (Anethesia)-Pulling Teeth."

Music Gear Review Standing just a tad under 30" tall, the BG500 combo gets my vote for "Most Deceptive Bass Combo" of 2010. It's very hard to believe that so much sound comes from a relatively small box [...] I never ran the master past noon with the Gain control set around 11 o'clock in a room that seats 500 and, in fact, found myself actually turning down a few times. Even a jazzer would find a pleasing tone in the BG500.

basschat.co.uk "I was a bit hesitant at first because I was really after a head and cab config but I played with it for a few minutes and was really impressed! [...] I really liked every feature on this amp.
Tweetertone and contours were good, and the memory feature seems really useful. The compressor sounds great, one knob; the first compressor I understand how to use :oD Tubetone is really cool, gives me the feeling I'm using a real tube amp. The way I like to think of it is using the Tubetone knob to set how dirty your 'tubes' are and then using the gain to 'drive' them (yeah, you could just set the gain and use the Tubetone as an OD knob, but I like pretending that this is a real tube amp :oD) This and the tuner will eliminate the need for my pedals. 500w is more power then I'll ever need, which is great."

Guitarist & Bass Magazine "The TubeTone is recreating the effect of a tube section acting before the preamp and the tone corrections, and another tube section placed at the power amp stage. The result is amazing." "The BG500 is perfect for each and every bass player in every style. The build quality is really good and the price makes it affordable. Good job!"
