About Charles Cave
Charles Cave is the youthful bassist, backing vocalist and the primary songwriter in the Indie rockers White Lies. The band, which started off as 'Fear of Flying', transformed into the White Lies persona in 2007 to better match their evolving style of music.
Cave actually started playing 'bass' on his dad's acoustic six-string guitar, learning songs from his favorite bands Pantera and Black Sabbath, before eventually graduating to a real bass. It was at this point that Cave truly started developing his own sound, which developed into the band Fear of Flying and eventually White Lies.
Over the years, Cave has become an indispensable part of the White Lies line-up to whom he contributes on a variety of fronts. Although a bassist and backing vocalist to the public eye, he is also the mastermind behind White Lies' songwriting, an aspect of music that Cave is determined to become more and more involved in.
In February of 2008, just five months after their transformation, White Lies earned a recording contract with Fiction Records just days after their debut performance. Ever since the start, White Lies has shown sky-high potential as their song 'Death' was even named "Hottest Record in the World" by BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe on the 5th of February 2008 - despite not even having been officially released yet. Upon the release of their debut album 'To Lose My Life' in early 2009, White Lies became the first British act in 2009 to achieve a number one album and the first to debut at number one as well. Needless to say, White Lies broke into the spotlight in an extravagant manner and the following success of the album was spearheaded by singles such as 'Death', 'Unfinished Business' and 'To Lose My Life'.
At the beginning of 2009, White Lies featured in multiple "ones to watch" polls for the coming year, including the BBC's Sound of 2009 poll and the 2009 BRITs Critics' Choice Award. White Lies' musical style has been described as dark yet uplifting by the media, drawing comparisons to Joy Division, Editors and Interpol.
In 2011, White Lies continued on their quest for international fame & glory with the release of their second album 'Ritual'. Their success has also meant sold out shows throughout their world tours, which have included Europe, North America and Japan, as well as appearances at some of the world's largest music festivals, such as Glastonbury, Roskilde, Lollapalooza and Rock Werchter.
Cave is a user of TC's Flashback Delay and Corona Chorus for which he has also lent his time and style to create a couple of very useful TonePrints. At TC, we are delighted that Charles Cave opted to reduce the weight and increase the available space on his pedalboard by choosing the PolyTune Mini for tuning purposes.
