About Bill Smith
Bill Smith is a Grammy-nominated recording engineer. During his long career he has worked with many high profile artists such as Barbra Streisand, Queen Latifah, Al Jarreau, Slayer, Rick James, and many more.
As anyone who works with such a range of different styles and sounds, Smith needs his equipment to be able to handle whatever he throws at it.
'The system 6000 is an integral part of my work. You can do anything you want with it. It's a reverb device, with some of the finest world-class reverbs around in any format. It's a mastering tool, it's a compressor, it's a digital EQ, a multi-band limiter,' he says.
The System 6000 can do so much, that it's sometimes hard to pin down how it might fit into your particular workflow. That's why we like to ask studio pros, which feature is the most important for them. However, often it is the very fact that System 6000 does so much that ends up making it so indispensable.
'The one feature that I like about it, is that I can do anything I want with it. There is no one feature, except that I don't have to read a manual to figure it out. The tools are there to do whatever you want. It's up to you how you use them.'
Bill Smith is lucky enough to have worked with System 6000 for many years. In fact he has used the system since it first came out.
'When it came out, like anything that high end, for the type of work I do, it's something you're going to take a look at. I've used the System 6000 since I first tried it in 1999, it was one of the first ones to come out of the factory.'
